A Path to Property and Building

September 26, 1961 The Zeeland Classis of the Reformed Church in America agrees "to purchase a site for a new Church in the area of the proposed Grand Valley College." Six acres is then purchased on Pierce Street directly east of what is now the property of the channel 54 television station.

May 28, 1963 The Zeeland Classis of the Reformed Church in America agrees to purchase 30 acres at a cost of $4,125 to assist Grand Valley State College in procuring the final property necessary to complete their land acquisition for an Allendale campus. The property is located at the NE corner of Pierce and 48th Ave. The agreement provides the Classis use of 15 of those acres for a period of 50 years. They may farm it, build a church on it or hold other religious activities on the site. At the end of the 50 years (2013), Grand Valley State College may purchase the full rights to the property for the cost of the original purchase price ($4,125) plus the depreciated value of any improvements the Classis has made to the property.

August 1999 A landowner on 42nd Ave. approaches GVSU campus ministry about starting a church on 27 acres of his property. An ad hoc group of people are assembled to consider and pray over the possibility of planting a church on that land. This ultimately initiates the plans to launch Spring Valley Community Church by the Zeeland Classis of the Reformed Church in America. Some months later it is discovered that the land is not legally available and the offer is rescinded.

October 20, 1999 Pastor Randy Weener is called to be the planting pastor for SVCC. He begins work on January 15, 2000 and weekly worship starts at the Allendale Public School Middle School on October 15, 2000.

May 15, 2001 The Zeeland Classis grants to Spring Valley Community Church the rights to the 6 acres on Pierce Street to build a church facility or sell and purchase other more beneficial property. With the transfer of files to SVCC, the 1963 agreement with Grand Valley State College is rediscovered but the signed documents are missing. After some research it appears that no one in the Classis or at GVSU has recollection of this agreement.

October 18, 2001 GVSU announces the discovery of the original signed documents, confirming that the Classis purchase of the 30 acres did in fact occur and rights to the 15 acres did still exist.

September 21, 2003 A plan to build a 4,800 sq. ft. facility on the 15 acres of the GVSU parcel is approved by the SVCC members.

December 2003 A gift of $100,000 is given to SVCC for future construction by a non-member family.

January 22, 2004 An opportunity to purchase 20 acres, a house and barns at 4701 Luce Street is offered for $725,000. SVCC makes an offer to purchase which is accepted by the seller. We are unable to meet the contingencies within 30 days and the offer is voided. The primary contingency was to reach an adequate settlement with GVSU to provide the monies to purchase the property. That was not achieved.thermometer

March 31, 2004 A settlement with GVSU, the $100,000 from the donor, and a price reduction by the landowner allows SVCC to purchase the 20 acres and buildings at 4701 Luce Street for $525,000. As part of the settlement, the 6 acres on Pierce Street are also transferred to the University.

October 16, 2004 SVCC celebrates its 4th anniversary with a dedication of the Luce Street property.

December 17, 2004 To expand frontage on 48th Avenue, a trade is completed, transferring the house and barns on Luce Street for a house and acreage located at 10150 48th Ave. Adequate frontage on Luce Street is retained for a future means of egress to the property.

July 26, 2007 The steel structure of a 15,000 square foot furniture store in Mt. Pleasant, MI is purchased for $5,000 for its potential use in a future facility or to use toward funding.

Currently we are in process of taking donations toward a building fund and you can view to the right where w are at in that process.
